PLA Carrier Shandong Scrambles J-15s to Intercept Foreign Recon Aircraft During Far Seas Drill
Original video by China Central Television
During a recent far seas training operation, China’s aircraft carrier Shandong launched J-15 fighter jets to drive away foreign aircraft attempting close-in reconnaissance, according to reports by CCTV and the PLA Navy’s official channels.
The incident occurred suddenly during the dual-carrier group exercise, with the Shandong's flight support crew executing a rapid scramble under high-pressure conditions. A naval officer noted that “split-second precision” was key to ensuring the jets were armed and airborne in time. The foreign aircraft reportedly retreated after encountering the Chinese response.
PLA media emphasized that the carrier group operated under persistent surveillance by foreign ships and aircraft, including late-night encounters where J-15s were launched in response—showcasing the carrier’s all-weather, round-the-clock readiness.
